About Us
Our History
The Harrison & Potter Trust dates from 1970 following the amalgamation of two almshouse charities – the charity known as John Harrison's Hospital (founded in April 1653) and the charity known as Mary Potter's Hospital (founded in April 1728). In 1972 a further charity known as the Josiah Jenkinson's Pension Charity (founded in May 1905) was taken under the wing of Harrison & Potter and subsequently fully amalgamated.
The charity and, historically, its predecessors, has two primary purposes being the provision of almhouse accommodation and the provision of grants* for the benefit of those in financial hardship.
*Under the charity's constitution, projects and the individuals supported by them must be located within the Leeds City boundary.
The charity owns almshouses at two sites - at Raglan Road, Leeds and Lovell Park Road, Leeds.
The properties at Raglan Road are built around an inner courtyard and comprise a mixture of one bedroom and two bedroom flats and houses – 18 altogether. The original building dates from 1850.
The properties at Lovell Park Road were built in the 1960s; there are 35 single bed units each with their own bathroom and kitchen.
